How many kids under the age of 25 can drive a manual transmission?
This group of new drivers most likely grew up in a household with no manual transmissions. Fewer than 5% of new cars sold in the U.S. are manuals. With more electric vehicles being offered, this percentage will shrink exponentially.
Although my daughter couldn’t care less about driving, I always cracked up at the naive comments from her friends when I used to pick them all up from school. “Mr. Kramer, is your car broken? How come you have to keep wiggling that stick-thingy in a leather bag?” Or, one of my favorites, “Mr. Kramer, it must be really hard to talk on the phone while driving a car like this…huh?”
So, while the shifting muscle of young Millennial and Generation Z kids continues to atrophy, these 993 Tiptronics with a 30% lower price tag than equivalent manuals are looking like a pretty good bargain right now.

The 993 variation of the Porsche 911 has always been regarded as the best of the great “air-cooled” era. These cars have the perfect blend of classic Porsche performance with modest creature comforts. Plus, the 993 produced even more power with the introduction of the VarioRam engine.
This Porsche was built on February 28th, 1996 and sold new on September 25th, 1996 by a Porsche dealer in New York. It was ordered with the following factory options:
- Active Brake Differential (traction control)
- 17” Cup Design Wheels (replaced with factory 18” wheels)
- Rear Window Wiper
- Full Power Seat – Left
- Rim Caps w/Colored Porsche Crest
- Comfort Package
- Cassette-radio Becker Porsche CR-210
- Automatic speed control
- Electric sunroof
- On board computer
- Tiptronic Transmission with buttons for steering wheel
The first owner moved with the car to Florida within the first couple months of ownership. He kept the car for a couple of years/8k-miles before trading it in to his local dealer. The next two owners lived near Seattle, Washington and combined kept the car nearly a decade/42k-miles before selling it to the local Orange County owner in June of 2008. For the last 12-years/7k-miles, this owner has only used the car for weekend driving. He always garaged it as well as servicing it on a regular/annual basis. For the first few years he serviced it at TruSpeed in Costa Mesa, California and for the last several years he’s been using Cape Auto in Mission Viejo, California. Here are some of the most recent services:
- Service/repair secondary smog injection (9/19 @49k-miles)
- New driver seat power cables
- Replaced alternator belts and pulley update (5/18 @ 48k-miles)
- Oil cooler and blower motor resistors
- Replace fuse box, oil service, alternator shroud air duct, and Interstate battery (12/18)
- New Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires (8/18 @ 48k-miles)
- New factory key remote
This 993 is in excellent condition and shows minimal signs of use. It is clear that this Porsche has been well cared for and garaged its entire life. The paint is in excellent condition with some small/typical road wear that’s been professionally touched up. There’s a small blemish on the right rear fender that has also been professionally touched up (see photo). The paint meter shows original paint on all panels except the hood, which visually looks the same as the rest of the car and was probably touched up when new. The factory 18” turbo twist wheels are wearing their original finish and in good shape with a few light areas of curb rash (see photos). They are sporting near new/full tread Michelin tires. The brakes have around 75% life remaining. The glass is all original including the windshield and in great condition with no significant chips or cracks. All the rubber seals look fresh. The plastic rear spoiler wall (only when spoiler is in up position) has a tear in it, which is very common. All exterior lights work properly.
The interior is in equally as nice condition. The leather seats look great with no tears, rips, or excessive wear. The headliner, carpet, and door panels all look fresh with no tears or stains. Even the door pockets show little to no wear. The dash has no cracks and is perfect. All the gauges work properly as do the electric windows, mirrors, and sunroof. The A/C blows cold. The original Becker radio also works properly.
This 993 starts easily on the first try and holds an even idle with no excessive smoking. The throttle response is immediate and it builds revs smoothly. The steering is crisp and responsive with no pulling and it tracks straight. The car transmission shifts smoothly and all Tiptronic functions work great. The brakes have excellent initial bite with no fading or pulling. This 993 could easily be used for daily commuting or fun weekend driving.
This Porsche has current California registration valid to August of 2020 and it recently passed CA’s strict emissions/smog test.
This 993 C2 includes 2-keys with remotes, owner’s manuals with cover (maintenance booklet is from a different car), Porsche production sheet, tool kit, jack, space saver spare, and air compressor.

We appreciate the countless calls from brokers and dealers. As much as we would love to quickly “wholesale” this car to industry partners so they can make a quick profit, the car is on consignment (as are all of our offerings) and the owners have the final say.
If you have actually taken the time to read this far in our detailed description, I can’t imagine there are any questions you may have. However, if there is something I missed or you would prefer to hear the warm sound of a human voice (mine) reiterating the research I’ve provided above, I would be happy to help.
If you put our company name in Google (AutoKennel®) you will see that we have been a long-time part of the Porsche community and have worked extremely hard to earn the positive reputation you will find.
