Most of the time I’m immersed in the German car world where quarter-mile times are far less important then the whole package. However, sometimes, things are just a bit too serious and you need good old fashion American horsepower to wake you up.
You gotta admire Carroll Shelby. That man loved to make you laugh and s**t your pants all at the same time. This Super Snake is just so much fun. Why do you need it? I haven’t a clue. However, when that supercharger whines like a tornado siren and your brain depresses against the back of your skull you can’t help but have a Cheshire cat grin. Like a child experiencing G-forces for the first time, you say to yourself, “again, again.”
Oh, in case you forget what you’re driving, I counted 50 badges throughout the car. And, I still feel like I missed a few.

The first GT500 was introduced in 1967. For the next 40-years, no other Ford Mustang wore the GT500 badge. In 2007, Ford and Shelby revived this model and limited production to 10,000 units. Shelby went on to offer no more than 1,000 Super Snake packages to those who chose to double the original MSRP. This example was the last 2007 to receive the Super Snake upgrade, which was installed at Shelby America in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This GT500 was built on January 2nd, 2007 at Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan plant and was sold new on January 22nd, 2007 by Wyckoff Ford in New Jersey. Although they were well-equipped as standard, it was also ordered with the following factory optional equipment:
- Premium interior trim package
- Electrochromic Rearview Mirror w/Compass
- Aluminum Pedal Covers
- Radio shaker 500 sound system
- Sirius satellite radio prepared
The MSRP was $42,420.
The first owner kept the car for over 8-years before trading it back into the dealer with just under 1,000 original miles. The current West Coast owner purchased this Shelby from the Toy Barn of Dublin, Ohio on November 25th, 2015 with 978-miles. At the time of purchase, the selling dealer installed Llumar window tinting. This owner purchased this low mile example because he got word that Shelby America had one remaining slot available for their Super Snake upgrade package for the first model year. The GT500 was shipped directly to Shelby in Las Vegas. Nearly every available Shelby option was installed at that time which included:

The total package price was $48,689.
Shelby finished the upgrades as well as did a proper test drive/break-in process. It was completed and delivered to the new/current owner on February 24th, 2016 with just shy of 1,200 miles on the odometer.
As you can imagine, this Shelby is in near new condition. There are hardly any signs of use, especially for a 13-year old car. The exterior looks great with no significant blemishes. The hood stripe has a slight superficial check mark. The glass is all original including the windshield. The wheels have no curb rash and are wearing Michelin tires with 1,000-miles/near full tread. The brakes are near full life as well. The paint was checked with a paint meter and verified as all original factory paint. All exterior lights work.
The interior is equally as fresh and shows minimal wear. The leather/cloth seats have no tears or stains and barely look used. The carpet, rear seats, door panels, dash, and headliner all look new. All the gauges work properly as do the stereo system and air conditioning. All buttons, knobs, and switches perform properly. All interior lights work.
This GT500 starts easily with no smoking and holds a smooth idle. The exhaust note has just the right amount of throatiness without droning. The power is borderline insane. It’s easy to cruise at a moderate speed, but once the accelerator is depressed, it becomes a different animal. The brakes are quite good and easily slow things down without much fuss. The car tracks straight and handling is surprisingly crisp. Shifting is very smooth with no grinding or slipping. This lightly used Super Snake can easily be used daily or preserved for the show circuit.
This Super Snake comes with two sets of original books/owner’s manuals, extra key with fob (two total), extra set of satin black vinyl stripes, battery tender, factory tire repair kit, suspension adjustment tool, wheel locks, Shelby Certificate of Authenticity, and Shelby build documentation.
