The CB160 was first launched in 1964 with its twin carburetor and overhead cam. It was primarily designated for the growing U.S. market. It produced 16.5hp at 10k rpm and weighed just under 300lbs. It got 75mpg and cost over $500 new. Some of the technology from Honda’s race development trickled down to these street sport racers, including the looks.
Although not much is known about the early history of this example, it ended up with a capable restorer in San Jose, California. He performed a frame-up/nut and bolt restoration of the entire bike. Once completed, he sold it to the current Southern California owner in April of 2017.
Upon purchase, the restorer gave the owner a handwritten note with start-up and break-in procedures. The current owner registered the bike with California and even received custom black personalized plates. He kept it registered for the first couple of years, but only rode it one mile (weekly starts and driving up and down his neighborhood streets). Unfortunately, he has succumbed to serious health issues and hasn’t ridden the bike in over a year.
He shipped the bike to us with his beloved ’67 VW Sunroof Beetle to sell thinking that they made a nice vintage pairing. More details on the VW Beetle can be found here:
Upon receipt of the motorcycle, we had a local specialist come to our shop to go through the motorcycle and check its condition. He found it to be a nicely restored example and everything was new. He cleaned out the fuel system, added fresh fuel, and tuned the carbs. He got it running and did a 2-mile test drive to verify everything was working. He recommended that the carbs be gone through since the bike has been sitting for a year. Otherwise, if it’s going to be more of garage art, then he recommends draining the oil and fuel.
This Honda motorcycle looks fresh. All the paint and brightwork were recently restored. There are no signs of use as it’s only been ridden less than 3 miles. The lights work and it starts easily. It appears every component on this example has been restored to a very high level. With some freshening of the carbs due to sitting, this CB160 is ready to be enjoyed on vintage motorcycle touring events, cruises to your local gatherings, or simply displayed in your collection.
This CB160S comes with 3 keys, the original owner’s manual, the original sales/marketing brochure, an outdoor bike cover, and the Honda key bag.
