With the 996 Turbo, Porsche created one of their best-built variations of the 911 Turbo model. However, the 997 gave these cars the classic look they deserved. Besides a great looking exterior, the interior finishes were greatly improved. It is simple, clean, and classic 911. Finally, power was increased by nearly 40 horsepower over the prior Turbo S (X50 package) cars. These were the last generation of 911 Turbo cars with the coveted Mezger designed flat 6 engine.

In 2010, he shipped the Turbo back East to Fort Meyers, Florida, where he had a home. The Turbo was only there for less than a year and he shipped it back to Southern California in December of 2010.

The exterior of this Turbo is all original and in excellent condition. The paint on all the metal surfaces appears to be original and verified with a paint meter. There are minimal flaws with just the minor nicks here and there from the last 18 years of use. There are some scuffs on the front bumper and door edges, which were professionally touched up. The front spoiler lip is new from Porsche. The glass is all original, including the windshield, and wears the proper factory stampings. The windshield has a crack on the upper passenger corner that isn’t visible from inside the car. All the trim and rubber seals are in good shape. All the exterior lights work as does the power rear spoiler/wing. The original wheels have a few minor scuffs and are wearing Michelin Pilot Sport tires that were installed at the dealer in 2019. They have a half-life remaining. The front brakes have over 75% life and the rear brakes have 50% life.
The interior is also in good condition with no excessive signs of wear. The front seats have no tears or rips and just some light typical wear on the driver exit bolsters. The rear seats look unused. The Alcantara headliner has no tears, stains, or sagging issues. The carpet has no significant stains or heavy wear marks. The floor mats are original and the driver’s side has some signs of wear. The door panels are in great shape with no warping or major issues. The dash is perfect with no cracks. All the gauges work properly. All the power buttons, switches, and knobs all perform properly. The low tone horn doesn’t work. The A/C blows cold. The stereo system works properly as do the interior lights, mirrors, windows, and sunroof.
This Turbo drives very tight and still feels fresh. It has tremendous power throughout the rev range and is still relevant and fast. The brakes are superb with impressive stopping power as well as no fading or pulling. Handling is responsive with incredible grip. The car tracks straight. The suspension is original and rarely if ever worked out beyond normal commuting. When we checked the car’s computer, this Turbo has averaged 23.9mph over its entire life.
This Turbo is California registered and it just passed our strict smog/emissions testing.
This Porsche comes with 2 main keys, all owner’s manuals with vinyl cover, maintenance booklet with option sticker, original window sticker, order documentation, most service receipts from new, original selling dealer frame/insert, tool kit, wheel locks with key socket, and air compressor.
**Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud. All numbers including VIN, Engine, and color will be provided to serious buyers.
This Porsche owner went cold turkey for 5 decades.
The owner of this Turbo was a West Point graduate, Rhodes Scholar, Army captain, Commendation Medal recipient, Doctor of Economics from Harvard, University Department Chief/Professor of Economics, federal government economics advisor, and bookends Porsche owner.
After graduating with distinction from West Point, he won a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University, England. While there, he purchased a Porsche 356.
He enjoyed the freedom of driving his 356 with his French girlfriend throughout Europe.
He told his family that those years were the happiest years of his life.
He then went Porsche-less for the next 49 years.
In 2006, he retired, and custom ordered this 997 Turbo.
I can’t imagine going without a Porsche for a week let alone half of a lifetime.
Then again, this owner accomplished more than most people do in a dozen lifetimes.
Was he happy not driving a Porsche throughout his life versus just at the beginning and the end?!
