Car and Driver described the new Carrera T best: “The T nestles between the 370-hp Carrera and the 420-hp Carrera S in the basement of the 911 lineup. It uses the former’s 370-hp twin-turbocharged flat-six yet takes on the adaptive suspension (PASM Sport in Porsche-speak) from the Carrera GTS, a Sport Exhaust system with black exhaust tips, a shorter 3.59:1 final-drive ratio, a limited-slip rear differential on versions equipped with the seven-speed manual transmission, and a “lightweight” version of the 911’s Sport Chrono package that keeps the dynamic engine mounts and steering-wheel-mounted driving-mode selector.” Furthermore, there’s less sound insulation under the seats and thinner rear quarter glass and rear window. It’s really like an entry-level GT3.
Only 939 Carrera T cars came to the U.S. and of those 624 were manual transmission cars.

The current owner is a local Orange County/SoCal enthusiast and active PCA member. He’s had Porsches for decades working his way up from a 911SC to 993 to 996 to this Carrera T. He specially ordered this one from the famous Circle Porsche. For 5½ years, he’s used this Carrera T as his daily driver/commuter. He never tracked it or participated in any driving activities. He simply used it as his primary vehicle. He was meticulous with service and initially took it to his local Porsche dealer for all the service needs. Eventually, he utilized Cape Auto of Mission Viejo, California for service. Highlights of maintenance history over the years include:

This Carrera T is in excellent and near-new condition. The paint is all original and verified with a paint meter. The front end has been covered with PPF (paint protection film). This includes the front fenders, hood, front bumper, and side mirrors. There are minimal signs of use with no significant flaws. The glass is all original including the windshield and wearing the proper factory stampings. There are no major chips or scratches. The wheels have no significant curb rash and are wearing Porsche spec Michelin PS4S tires that have about half-life remaining. The front brakes are at between 50% and 75% life remaining with a slight lip on the rotors and the rear brake pads/rotors are new with full life. All the exterior lights work.
The interior is equally as nice and evident that it was well cared for. There are hardly any signs of wear and it still smells fresh. The Sport-Tex fabric seats are in great shape with no tears, rips, or heavy wear marks. The rear seats, carpet, and sunshade/headliner all look fresh. The factory floor mats look barely used as well. The door panels are in good shape and there are no major scuffs on the thresholds. The dash has no issues and all the gauges work. The power windows, mirrors, sunroof, and all other electrical systems operate properly. The A/C also blows very cold.
From a driving perspective, it is fantastic and changed my complete perspective on late-model Porsche 911 cars. Where most fall into two camps being either GT car or track car for the street, the T actually drives like a proper sports car should. I was shocked at how good this car is. It’s nicely balanced and very predictable. It feels light and nimble. Even on boring freeway driving, it still feels like something special. I am a big fan.
We checked the on board computer (DME) for over-revs and as expected, this 911 has been very lightly used. It’s averaged only 32mph over its entire life with zero revs in ranges 3-6. Range 1, which is at redline, has only happened for 0.07 seconds total. Level 2, which is 200 rpm above redline, has only happened for 0.008 seconds. This is most likely an error. The last time this vehicle saw redline was nearly 34,000 miles/1,050 hours ago.
California registration is current and paid to January 2025. It passes California’s strict smog/emissions test. This example has zero modifications and is as when delivered new.
This Carrera T comes with two main keys, owner’s manuals with vinyl case, original maintenance booklet with stamps, all service records, Porsche build sheet, tool kit, flat repair kit, air compressor, wheel lock key/locks, plastic trunk liner, and factory “Porsche” branded floor mats.
Porsche is sandbagging again.
They couldn’t make this first-generation Carrera T too good, but they did.
Porsche has a long history of playing down the performance figures of their 911 models.
Sometimes it’s not to cannibalize the sales of their other offerings. Or it’s to minimize having to re-crash test a car for federalization.
Whatever their reason, this Carrera T is truly made for enthusiasts. It has the “fizz!”
Automotive journalists agreed this is a driver’s car and a future enthusiast “must have” 911 like the RS America.
All I know is after a 200+ mile test loop up in the mountains, this Carrera T is at the top of my want need list.
