Many regard the 911 SC as among the best Porsches ever built. They are simple and pure, with a robust aluminum 3.0-liter short-stroke engine and a rust-resistant/galvanized chassis. This generation of 911 could easily be used as daily drivers, and most were. This, combined with their robust reliability, has led to most SCs having hundreds of thousands of miles on them.
This 911 was built in April of 1980 and sold new by Roth Porsche + Audi of Salem, Oregon, on June 18th, 1981. This SC was ordered with the following factory options:
- PTS Champagne Yellow
- Genuine Leather Front Seats
- Option Group F27
- Forged alloy wheels (16×6 & 16×7)
- Electric Outside Mirror Right
- Sport Shocks
- 2 Rear Speakers
- Fog lights
- Automatic speed control
- Power Antenna
- Electric Sliding Roof
The final MSRP was $33,442, approximately $129,790 in today’s dollars.
It appears that the vehicle was driven from Salem, Oregon, to Dave Strong Porsche + Audi of Salt Lake City on June 22nd, 1981, where it was delivered to the first owner, Michael Long of Sandy, Utah. This owner kept this 911 for about 5 years and 35k to 40k miles before trading it back to Dave Strong Porsche. It was sold on May 23, 1986, to the primary owner, Douglas Stewart Jr, a dentist from Salt Lake City, Utah. Doug kept this 911 for the next 40 years and serviced it regularly, as seen in the large stack of receipts going back to near new.

This primary owner sold this 911 at the end of last year to a local SoCal enthusiast. Before selling it, the car went to his mechanic to get serviced, checked, and repaired, as well as to get new tires. The odometer was repaired as it had stopped working for some time, but the owner was older and hadn’t driven it much over the previous 15+ years. Less than 5k miles were added during that period. This local owner has been a long-time enthusiast. He found this 911 via word of mouth through a friend since it wasn’t advertised. Although he wasn’t looking for another air-cooled 911, he couldn’t resist the color or condition. Alas, he needs a newer Porsche and is on the hunt for a 2018/2019 Carrera T manual, which he will trade for one. Upon receiving the car via enclosed transport in January of this year, he took it to his local specialist for a post-purchase inspection. The mechanic stated it was one of the nicest driving SCs he’d experienced.
Upon our receiving the car, the following services have been done or are in process in preparation for sale:
- Full detail
- Complete paint correction and polish
- Wet sand deck lid
- Remove dents
- Touch up paint small chips with custom color match
- Remove wheels, clean wheel wells and wheels
- Cerakote coating on wheels
- Polish stained anodized wheel lips
- Degrease engine and condition
- Steam chassis
- Degrease door jambs
- Clean and condition all outside trim and rubber
- Steam clean entire interior
- Condition leather
- New hood and deck lid struts
- Charge A/C system and pressure test
The exterior of this PTS Champagne Yellow 911SC is exceptional and very original. The car has always been garaged and never driven in inclement weather. The paint appears to be mostly original, as verified with a paint meter. We believe the deck lid might’ve been painted decades ago. The color match is perfect with a slightly higher paint meter reading. There are zero signs of any prior damage or repairs. The glass is all original and wears the proper factory stampings. There are no significant cracks or blemishes, just some mild rash from 45 years of use. The left front fog light lens is cracked, but the light still works. There are some very minor chips from normal use, which have been professionally touched up. All the exterior lights work. The Fuchs wheels are still wearing their original finish. The anodized lips are in good shape with some slight discoloration. The satin black centers show some slight fading. There are no major curb rash and they are wrapped in new Michelin tires. The front brake pads have about half-life remaining and the rears are between a third and half.
The interior is stunningly immaculate and tells the story of the low miles and careful use this SC received. The car has worn sheepskin seat covers over the front seats for the majority of its life. As a result, there is minimal wear on the leather. The cushions are still firm as well, and there are no tears or other major blemishes. The rear seats look unused. The headliner has no sagging issues or tears, and the headliner lights work. The carpet has no signs of major wear or stains, and the original floor mats are still in good shape. The door panels have no door pocket sagging issues, and the entry rubber has none of the typical tears. The dash has no cracks, as well as no warping around the center vents. All the gauges all work, including the clock. The original leather wrapped steering wheel stitching has separated. The radio works, however, the power antenna doesn’t go up. The power windows, mirrors, and sunroof all work properly, as well as the glove box light. Also, the cruise control does work. The A/C was just serviced and it blows ice cold.
This SC starts easily on the firsts try and holds an even idle with no surging. It pulls hard throughout the rev range with no hesitation. The power is surprisingly strong. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears with no grinding and it’s easy to go into first gear. The clutch engages properly with no slipping. The handling is precise and the car tracks straight. It’s very easy to drive and absorbs road irregularities while also inspiring confidence on turns.
Although this car isn’t registered currently in California, it has the CA compliance sticker as well as the catalytic converter installed and should pass the emissions test.
This 911 comes with the original owner’s manual with vinyl cover, factory maintenance booklet with stamps, Blaupunkt radio manual, original window sticker, most service receipts from new, front license plate bracket, 3 keys, manual sunroof crank tool, pair of sheepskin seat covers, space saver spare, jack, factory tool kit, tire glove with plastic bag, and original air compressor.
**Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud. All numbers including VIN, Engine, and color will be provided to serious buyers.
The first owner traded a tractor for this 911.
He kept it for a few years and then sold it to his Dentist. Or did he barter dental work for this 911?!
The dentist ended up marrying this SC.
He kept it for the next 40+ years.
Although he drove it less and less over the past 15 years, he still enjoyed it for local weekly drives. Despite the low miles, he still serviced it religiously (yes, we have nearly every service receipt from new).
Unfortunately, age and health have made it difficult to enjoy his 911 properly, so he decided it would have a better life here in Southern California.
Consider yourself lucky if you stay married to your soulmate for over 40 years, even if it is a Porsche 911.
