One of Last Mid-Year 911s Delivered to the U.S.
The mid-year Porsche 911s (1974-1977) have peaked the interest of enthusiasts and collectors. This is the last generation of lightweight 911s. They only weighed 2,380 lbs. By the time the 911 SC and turbos came out, weight grew by more than 200 lbs. Most of these cars were neglected and have long since disappeared, which makes it a challenge to find a nicely preserved example. Usually, the only hope for survival is low ownership and commitment by those owners to properly maintain their car. To find a 1-Southern California owned example is even more rare. This particular example is one of the very last mid-year 911s delivered to the U.S. There were only 38 more of these mid-year U.S. Targas made after this one.
This 911 S was built in June of 1977 and sold new on August 30th, 1977 by Circle Porsche + Audi, LTD of Long Beach, California. This 911 S was ordered with the following factory options:

The current owner is the original owner. He always wanted a fun weekend Porsche and in 1977, his wife convinced him to buy something special. She had a Mercedes for fun and he had this Porsche. It was always an extra car and they used it lightly but regularly. The longest trip they took in it was to Carmel/Monterey, California. Most of the time it lived in their garage and was taken out only on sunny weekends. For the first few years, this owner serviced the car at Rusnak Porsche in Pasadena, California. After the warranty expired, he began servicing the car at Caram Engineering in Pasadena. He’s been servicing the car with the same shop/mechanics for the last 38-years/42k-miles. The majority of the maintenance was simple routine stuff like brakes, oil, spark plugs, and major/minor services. Highlights of significant/recent repairs and upgrades include:

After meeting the owner and his family as well as going through all the receipts (see pics), it is clear that this 911 was more than just a weekend toy. It was a part of their family. They truly loved it and if it weren’t for health issues, they would not be selling it. It’s been an integral part of their family unit for the last 40+ years. It’s this kind of love and passion for this Porsche that has helped preserve it.
The exterior of this 911 looks exceptional, especially considering the age and originality. There are minimal signs of use and the majority of the paint is original. During their care, it was never painted. However, they did find out that before new delivery, there was some touch up on the right rear fender by the bumper at the dealer. There are minimal signs of use. Check the photos for any blemishes we could find. The original paint shows some very light age/reacting to the galvanized body with some faint texturing that can only be seen at the right angle under detailer fluorescent lights (see pics). The glass is all original including the windshield and is in excellent condition with no cracks and a small chip that has been repaired (see pic). All the trim and exterior rubber is original and in excellent shape as well with no major fading or cracks. The factory Fuchs wheels have their original finish with some slight discoloration and are wearing older Michelin Pilot Sport tires that have about half-life remaining and no cracks. The brakes have more than half-life remaining as well.
The interior is equally as nice and thanks to the years of dark window tint (we had professionally removed), real sheepskin seat covers (included – see pics), and always being garage kept. The front seats show minimal signs of wear and are still firm. There is just some light wear on the driver exit bolster. The rear seats, of course, look like new. The carpet is in very good condition with no stains or major wear marks. The Targa top fits beautifully and the headliner is perfect. The original vinyl covering on the inside of the targa bar is starting to peel back. The door panels are in excellent condition with only minor warping on the driver side door pocket. The dash looks like new with no cracks or warping. All the gauges work properly including the clock. The original radio was replaced in the early 80’s with a period tape deck and ADS door speakers. The system works fine including the electric antenna. The power windows and mirrors also work. The A/C system blows cool and could use a minor recharge of Freon. All the exterior and interior lights (even the glove box light) all work.
This 911 S is an absolute joy to drive. It starts easily on the first turn of the key and holds an even idle. The power is surprisingly strong with immediate throttle response. The brakes have a nice bite to them with no fading or pulling. The steering is light and precise. This Porsche would make an excellent entry point into the early air-cooled collector market and would be a joy on any vintage touring event.
California registration is paid through August of 2019 and it passes California’s strict smog test.
This 911 S comes with the original window sticker, copies of many receipts as well as purchase agreement, new vehicle delivery checklist, 1-key, original tool kit, space saver spare, sheepskin seat covers, mirror bras, and original jack.
