The 993 variation of the Porsche 911 has always been regarded as the best iteration of the great “air-cooled” era. These cars had the perfect blend of classic Porsche performance with modest creature comforts. Plus, who can argue with their beautiful styling that just keeps getting better with age. In particular, the ‘95s have proven to be one of the most reliable. With their OBD I computers, they are highly tunable and have no issues with the legendary secondary smog and exhaust valve issues of the later 993 models. With California’s tight smog laws, local ownership of 1995s are better alternatives to some of the later 993s.
This 993 was built on April 11th, 1995 and delivered new at the Porsche factory under the Tourist Delivery program on May 8th, 1995. After spending some time driving it in Europe, it was finally delivered back to the first owner by the selling dealership, Bellevue Porsche + Audi in Washington, on August 15th, 1995. It was specially ordered with the following additional factory options:
- Sport suspension / Special chassis rigidly tuned
- Firmer shocks and springs
- Thicker anti-roll bars
- Seat heating – left and right
- Cassette-radio Becker Porsche CR-1
- Newer type sports seats height electrically adjustable
- Rear window wiper
- Cruise control
- Electric sunroof
- Onboard computer
The MSRP was $77,548.77.
The first owner was Manfred Knauf of Lakewood, Washington. He used to own the selling Porsche dealership. After his tourist delivery and vacation with the car in Europe, it was sent back to Bellevue Porsche where it went through its final delivery preparation. Mr. Knauf owned the car for 6-years/22k-miles before passing away in 2001. The car was then serviced at the local dealer and shipped down to his daughter in Pleasanton, California. She kept the car for 12-years and added another 17k-miles. During her care, she regularly serviced the car at Porsche of Fremont, California.
The current owner’s daughter is good friends with the previous owner and she told her dad about this 993 becoming available. So, he jumped on the opportunity to buy a 1-family owned car that had low miles, was specially ordered, and had original paint. He purchased the car on September 15th, 2014 with just over 39,700 original miles. For the past 5+ years, he has used the car lightly on the weekend as well as driving it a few times a month to his office in order to keep the car properly exercised. Regardless of miles, he would take the car into Porsche of Livermore on a regular basis for checkup and routine service. The most recent service was on 11/19 at 45k-miles.
Before listing this Porsche, we took it to our local Porsche mechanic and had new hood and deck lid shocks installed as well as a new air filter. He also did a general inspection and found the car to be in excellent condition with no signs of damage or repairs. He noted that the drive belts were starting to show some slight cracks and should probably be replaced at the next oil service in a year. Also, there was some very light moisture of oil by the front of the transmission, which he said was normal for the age and not of any concern. The rest of the engine was very dry, and everything looked in order.
This 993 is in excellent condition and obviously always garaged. It appears that it was only driven in fair weather. The paint is all original and verified with a paint meter. There are minimal signs of use. The glass is in very good shape and all original, including the windshield. The windshield has a few chips that have been professionally repaired. The original wheels have a few spots of discoloration as well as some light curb rash. They are wearing older Michelin tires that are at the wear indicators on the rear and have about 50% tread left on the front. They should be replaced. The brake pads have about 40% life remaining. All of the exterior lights work. Because this was a late 1995 build, it received the upgraded 3rd light that is integrated into the roof line rather than the “basket-handle” of the earlier ones.
The interior is spectacular and certainly indicative of a low-mile/well cared-for example. The heated leather sport seats show minimal signs of use. There is just some very slight wear on the driver exit bolster. The rear seats, headliner, carpet, and door panels look near perfect. The dash has no cracks or issues. All the gauges work properly as well as the interior lights. The electric windows, mirrors, and sunroof all work. The aftermarket radio works properly and a CD changer also works (it’s been removed, but easily reinstalled). The A/C blows very cold.
This 993 drives very tight just as you would expect a low miles and well cared-for example to feel. It starts easily and holds a smooth idle. The throttle response is perfect with strong acceleration throughout the rev range. The brakes have excellent bite with no fading or pulling. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears with no grinding or slipping. The clutch engages perfectly and shows no signs of wear. The handling is crisp and responsive. The car tracks straight and would further be improved with fresh tires.
California smog and registration are current and paid through December of 2020.
This 993 comes with extra keys (2 master keys with remotes and 1 valet key with original key card), older custom car cover, owner’s manuals, original maintenance booklet, factory emergency triangle, factory first aid kit, space saver spare, Sony CD changer, and front license plate mounting hardware.

We appreciate the countless calls from brokers and dealers. As much as we would love to quickly “wholesale” this car to industry partners so they can make a quick profit, the car is on consignment (as are all of our offerings) and the owners have the final say.
If you have actually taken the time to read this far in our detailed description, I can’t imagine there are any questions you may have. However, if there is something I missed or you would prefer to hear the warm sound of a human voice (mine) reiterating the research I’ve provided above, I would be happy to help.
