The 2015 model year with the F-series engines has been devoid of the prior issues found in the E-series.  More importantly, 1-owner examples like this one that were lightly used, regularly serviced, and not tracked have proven to be void of later engine issues, which are preventable.  Production numbers for this 3-model year run were around 1,500 for the U.S. market.

The 991.1 GT3 ushered in a new era with PDK-only shifting, causing the internet to collectively lose its mind. Fast forward a decade and, funny enough, those same critics are now happily enjoying them.  Currently, these are the best value GT3s on the market and, in my opinion, overlooked. The 2015 model year with the F-series engines has been devoid of the prior rod bolt issues found in the E-series engines.  More importantly, 1-owner examples like this one that were lightly used, regularly serviced, and not tracked have proven to be void of later engine issues, which are preventable.

The current Los Angeles area owner is a Porsche enthusiast who purchased this GT3 new with the help of his good friend and recently passed local Porsche enthusiast, Doug Barron.  From day one, he has garaged it under a cover and only used it lightly on the weekend.  He made sure to take it out for a drive at least every few weeks.  Unfortunately, he lost his home in the Pacific Palisades fire (fortunately, the GT3 was being stored off-site) and is focused on rebuilding his family home.  As a result, he just can’t use this Porsche as intended and doesn’t want it to just sit.  The car has been completely unmodified and always dealer-serviced at either the selling Porsche dealer or Porsche of Beverly Hills.

    • Check DME: vehicle’s average mph over its life was just 25.5 mph
    • Inspection

Our local independent Porsche specialist just preformed the fresh service above as well as checked over the vehicle.  He found it in good condition with no signs of prior damage, repairs, or heavy track use.  The average mph from the DME further substantiates it’s LA daily driver/commuter life.  He took a stethoscope to the engine listening for any valve noise and it was fine.  He sent the oil out for analysis anyway.  He did note noise from the right side muffler.

The oil analysis from Blackstone came back positive with no signs of common engine issues further proving the care this GT3 saw both with service and driving.  Per Blackstone report from 8/26:

“This sample looks pretty good. The wear metals are all reading within average ranges, with averages showing typical wear for this engine type on 2,100-mile intervals. We’re not sure of the interval used for this sample [2,200 miles since prior oil service], so that lends a touch of uncertainty to the results, though assuming the oil run wasn ‘t unusually short, these metal counts would be fine. The mild amount of fuel dilution isn’t enough to elicit any concern either, and no other contamination (coolant, water, excess dirt) was present.”

There is a lot of hype and misinformation on the whole engine thing with these cars.   ALL ENGINES had the rod bolt issue handled.  The “coveted” G6 engine has the same issues as prior engines, but are even more expensive to fix.  The overwhelming majority of engines that had issues were linked back to poor owner care and repeated track use at 9k rpm.

The key to these cars is how the car was owned, serviced, and driven.  A 1-owner car that rarely saw redline and no track use of any engine variation is likely to not have issues.  Good news is there is preventative maintenance and care that can insure these engines last a very long time  This is a great article by an engine builder that sheds more light on the issue versus the forum pontification, which is usually WRONG!

This article, it will help you better understand.

The exterior of this GT3 is immaculate and has clearly seen an uneventful garaged life.  The paint has no PPF and showcases limited use with minimal chips or other flaws.  The paint appears to be original, as verified with a paint meter.  All the factory panel VIN decals are present.  All the exterior trim and light lenses are in good shape.  The glass has no major chips or scratches and appears to be all original, including the windshield.  The proper factory glass stampings are present.  The wheels are in good shape and wearing their factory finish.  There are no significant curb rash marks.  They are wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires dated 2021/2022.  The tires have between 50% and 75% life remaining.  The front brakes have between a third and half-life remaining with a slight lip on the rotors.  The rear brakes have about 75% life remaining with no lips on the rotors.

The interior is equally as nice and indicative of a low-mile/lightly used example.  The leather/Alcantara seats have no rips or heavy signs of use, just some typical mild exit bolster wear.  The headliner is in nice shape with no sagging issues.  The carpet has no stains or heavy wear marks.  The door panels have no major lifting/warping issues, and the dash looks great.  The Alcantara steering wheel is showing some typical wear/smoothness.  All the gauges work properly along with power windows, mirrors, A/C, and radio.

California registration is paid to December of 2026, and it passes California’s smog test.

This Porsche comes with 1 key, the original owner’s manuals with vinyl case, tool kit, wheel removal socket, flat tire repair kit, tool kit, air compressor, original window sticker, factory indoor car cover, battery tender, and service receipts.

He bought a GT3, but he forgot to be a GT3 guy.

I love weird Porsche ownership stories, and this one is a bit odd.

This is a 1-SoCal owner GT3 that was purchased new and kept for over a decade by someone who wasn’t really into them.

A close friend talked him into buying it, and then he did something almost unheard of with a GT3:

He didn’t modify it.

He didn’t track it.

He didn’t turn it into a rolling science experiment.

He drove it to work occasionally and serviced it obsessively at the Porsche dealer.

This GT3 spent the last decade doing something most GT3s never get to do… be a car.

Honestly, I’m not sure whether this guy didn’t know what he had or knew exactly what he had.

Regardless, the next owner is the beneficiary, because finding an unmolested 991 GT3 is very difficult.

Finding one that’s been a one-Southern California-owned, not heavily tracked, and obsessively dealer-serviced for 10+ years is almost impossible.

It’s as if someone accidentally ordered a new GT3 and then forgot to tell the owner what it was supposed to be used for.
