Many regard the 911 SC among the best Porsches ever built.  They are simple and pure like the early 911s with an extremely reliable aluminum block 3.0-liter motor and rust resistant chassis.  I’ve always been a firm believer that these SC’s, with the proper care, will last forever.  I think these cars are among the best values on the classic car market.  However, it is getting harder to find nice drivers that are in interesting/cool color combos without a sunroof…aka slick top.

This Super Carrera was built in November of 1980.  This example was ordered with minimal options.  It only came with a Porsche CR stereo, antenna, and Dunlop tires.  This is one of the most limited ordered 911 SC I’ve ever seen.  We do believe that the car spent most of its life in Arizona.  Although we do not know much about the car’s early life, we do have service receipts going back 15-years.  It was purchased in 2005 by a local Phoenix area enthusiast who used some of the top local shops to maintain his Porsche until he sold it in 2018 to the current SoCal owner.

A major engine rebuild was performed in 2012 at 93k-miles by Patrick Motorsports in Phoenix, Arizona.  Highlights of the build include:

  • Tear engine all the way down to the case to clean, inspect, and repair
  • All new bearings (main and rod)
  • Timing chains and guide rails
  • Rocker arms
  • Cylinder head studs (dilavar type)
  • Piston rings from Porsche
  • Oil return tubes (solid)
  • New stock OEM cam shafts
  • All new seals, gaskets, hoses, and lines
  • Full valve job
  • Resurface heads
  • Hand clean pistons and cylinders
  • Sachs clutch kit / resurface flywheel
  • New SSI stainless steel heat exchanger set
  • New Dansk muffler

The receipt for this work is 10 pages and was $23,774 (see pics).

The car was cosmetically refurbished during the previous owner’s care.  It started with a full repaint in 2005 that cost nearly $12k.  The paint has held up great for the past 14-years.  There are a few spots with overspray on the rubber.  H4 European headlights were installed with painted rings.  7×16 and 8×16 wheels were refinished and installed.  Also, a later Carrera front valance with integrated fog lights was installed.  In 2007, the interior was changed from the original beige to black, which included new carpet, door panels, sound deadening, installation of factory sport seats, and nearly every other part of the interior.  The total was nearly $11k.   In 2017, touch up work on the exterior as well as a fresh trunk carpet kit and restored dash was installed.  This recent work was over $5,000.

In April of 2018, the current owner purchased the car from the AZ owner and had it shipped to his home in the Los Angeles area.  I’ve known this owner for the better part of 20-years.  He’s a long time Porsche enthusiast and has always had great cars.  Unfortunately, life changes just don’t make sense for him to keep this 911.  For the last 16-months, he’s only added a few hundred miles.  In that time, he removed the Carrera tail that had been added in the 80’s and repainted and installed the correct steel deck lid.  He also had TRE Motorsports and TLG Auto perform some minor services.  Just before we received the car on consignment, it went to our local air-cooled specialist for inspection and the following items:

  • Valve adjustment
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Oil service/filter using Porsche Classic oil and filter
  • Drain sealing washers
  • Service A/C system

This 911 is in very nice refurbished condition.  The paint looks excellent with minimal signs of use.  The glass is in good shape with no major chips, cracks, or scratches.  The wheels are in very good shape and wearing Bridgestone tires with more than half-life remaining.  The brakes have about half life as well.

The interior is equally as nice.  The leather sport seats have no tears and hardly any wear.  The carpet, door panels, and headliner are all in very good shape.  The dash has no cracks and all the gauges work properly.  The A/C system blows very cold and has been refurbished (see pic for temp reading).  The power windows work as does the Bluetooth stereo.  The electric passenger mirror and electric door locks do not work.  The key will still lock and unlock the doors.

This SC drives very nice.  It starts easily with no smoking.  The power feels strong and it shifts smoothly through the gears with no grinding or slipping.  The brakes have good initial bite with no fading or pulling.  Steering is responsive and the car handles properly.  This SC could easily be used daily and would be ideal for vintage touring events.

California registration is current and paid through April of 2020.

This SC comes with extra keys, owner’s manual, Certificate of Authenticity, jack, space saver spare, and 15-years of service records.
