By the late 80’s, U.S. Porsche dealers were demanding that the factory produce a domestic example of their popular slant nose or flachbau edition 930 Turbo as an option package.  From 1981 to 1986, Porsche had only produced slant noses for non-U.S. markets via their sonderwunschen” (special order) program.  For 1987-1989 Porsche allowed U.S. customers to order the Slant Nose option as an M505 or M506 code.  This was a $30,000 option (equivalent to near $70k today) and as a result only a handful were ordered.  The 1989 model year is considered the most desirable with the one-year only 5-speed manual (G50/50) transmission.  However, Porsche was already moving on to their 964 program and only 60 slant nose coupes were produced with the coveted 5-speed.

This 930 was produced in March of 1989 and sold new by Campbell Motor Cars, LTD on July 20th, 1989.  That was the local Porsche dealer in Buena Park, California.  Besides the host of standard features included, this 930 was well-equipped with the following additional factory options:

  • Shorter gear shift lever
  • Slant nose body option
  • Lumbar support – left seat
  • Limited slip locking differential (40%)
  • Luggage compartment black velour
  • Supple/drapped leather seats
  • Sunroof
  • Amplifier system
  • Blaupunkt Radio “Reno”
  • Mobile phone preparation

The total MSRP was over $103,737.  That’s approximately $210,000 in today’s money.

The original owner was a Newport Beach attorney who worked mostly with automotive dealerships.  In particular, he was on retainer for Beverly Hills Porsche for many years.  As a result, he was given the opportunity to purchase this rare slant nose turbo new.  Up until 1995, he had services performed by Newport Beach Porsche.  Then, he used a local Costa Mesa independent marque specialist.  He used this 930 as his daily driver, which was mostly commuting to Beverly Hills.  This racked up the miles as he averaged nearly 10k-miles/year.  Highlights of services throughout his ownership includes:

  • Regular oil services
  • Regular brake fluid flushes
  • Serviced A/C system regularly
  • Upgraded turbocharger to European K27
  • Resealed motor/valve job
  • Clutch kit

He kept the car for 15-years before selling it to the current local Orange County owner in September of 2004 with 144k-miles.  This owner is a PCA member with our Orange Coast region.  He used the car for light weekend driving and some PCA tour events.  It was never abused.  He performed all services at Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills, CA.  Vision is a highly respected local independent Porsche specialist.  Highlight of services for the past 15-years have included:

  • Regular oil services and fluid flushes.

  • New factory catalytic converter
  • Regular major services including spark plugs, belts, adjust valves

Unlike many Turbos that have been parked and not driven, this example has always been used, garaged, and properly serviced regularly.  As a result, it’s been very reliable.  Also, thanks to a light refreshing over the past decade, this example looks better than most with half the miles.  The paint is in very good shape with minimal signs of use and very few blemishes.  The glass is in excellent shape and wearing all the properly factory stamps.  The deco trim and rubber is also original and in remarkable shape.  The original factory Fuchs wheels (7×16 and 9×16) were chromed when new at the dealer.  The centers were recently refurbished.  They are in great shape with no chipping or curb rashes.  They are wearing new OEM size Pirelli tires.  The brakes are also near new.  All the exterior lights (including pop-ups) work properly.

The interior is also very nice and mostly original.  The front seats were recovered in leather over a decade ago.  They show minimal signs of use with no tears or cracks.  The rear seats, carpet, and door panels are in very good condition as well.  The headliner has a tear near the driver-side B-C pillar.  The dash has no cracks or warping issues.  All the gauges work including the clock.  The original Blaupunkt Reno radio also works.  The A/C system is complete and blows air, just not cold as it hasn’t been used in years.

This rare 930 slant nose is very well sorted and drives extremely tight.  It starts on the first try with no excessive smoking and holds a smooth and even idle.  The throttle response is extremely quick and it builds revs easily.  The transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding or slipping.  The new closer gear ratio makes it much easier to utilize the power in the lower gears.  The brakes have amazing bite with zero fade or pulling.  Steering is light and responsive and the car tracks straight.  I can see why this Turbo was used daily for the majority of its life.  It’s quite easy  to drive and a ton of fun.

California registration is current and it passes the strict CA emissions/smog test.

This 930 comes with original owner’s manual, maintenance booklet, rare Slant Nose supplemental manual, most service records from new, original window sticker, original dealer sales brochures, car cover, rare factory slant nose marketing poster, space saver spare, and jack.

*Available for an additional fee are the following parts: Complete factory Turbo exhaust system with less than 30k-miles on it (including extra catalytic converter), NOS slant nose headlight motor, extra fan/housing, and misc. hoses seen in pics.
