The 356 C (T6) was the final iteration of this model.  The C was also the first 356 to come with disc brakes.  These are some of the best candidates for long vintage touring events.

This C was built on June 8th, 1964, and delivered new on August 19th, 1964 by P.C. Import of Northbrook, Illinois.  They were one of the first 7 Porsche distributors in North America.  It was ordered new in Ruby Red over Black leatherette and Dunlop tires.  The first owner was Barbara Allyn of Winnetka, Illinois.

We don’t know much about this 356’s early history.  It eventually ended up in Florida and was restored by a reputable shop in 2007-2010.   It was sold in 2017 to a dealer in Southern California who then sold it to a local Orange County enthusiast on August 30th, 2017 with 56,709 miles on the odometer.

This local owner had been enjoying the Porsche hobby for over 40 years.  He’s owned several 356s and 911s over the years.  For the next 5-years, he has added another 4k miles of local driving on the weekends.  He took it to Scott’s Independent of Anaheim, California for all its service needs during his ownership.  Scott’s has been in business for nearly 50 years and is highly regarded by the air-cooled community.  They have done countless mechanical restorations on ’73 911 RS cars.  Services Scott’s performed included:

This owner invested nearly $30k during his care to make this 356 drive properly.

On May 5th, 2022, we helped this owner sell it to the next caretaker from Northern California.  This owner had never experienced a Porsche older than the 90s and was anxious to experience something closer to the factory’s roots.  He had a thorough pre-purchase inspection performed and then drove it nearly 500 miles home through LA traffic and well into the night.  For nearly 30 months, this owner has added another 6k miles of fun weekend driving including some local touring events.  During his care, he serviced it regularly at a top local independent Porsche specialist.  Recent maintenance included the following:

  • Oil service, brake fluid flush, new fuses, pulley seal (5/22 @60,941 miles)
  • Major service and misc. repairs (9/22 @ 62,648 miles
    • Oil service (Motul Classic 20w-50

This owner invested $10,572 in normal services over the last couple of years.

This 356 is in excellent shape and appears to have been restored within the past l5 years.  The paint has a deep luster to it and shows minimal signs of use.  We just had our detailer do a full paint correction and polish with ceramic coating for further protection.  There are a couple of small chips and scratches that have been professionally touched up.  The body is dry, straight, and great shape with no signs of any significant damage or corrosion.  The glass is in good shape with no major cracks or chips.  There are a few spots with scratches on the side windows.  The correct factory stampings are present except for the windshield, which is an older replacement.  All the exterior lights work and the lenses are in good shape with no cracks.  The wheels (all 5) are Stoddard’s custom 15×5.5 steel replacement wheels.  They are wearing Pirelli CN36 vintage-style tires installed in 2018 and have nearly half-life remaining.  The brakes have around 75% life remaining.

The engine bay is very tidy with all the correct SC engine bits.  It’s very dry with no signs of leaking and the sound pad is in good shape.  The underside is clean and looks fresh.  The floors, longitudinals, and jack points appear to be original and in good shape.  The battery box was repaired at some point in time and looks decent.  The entire front suspension is fairly fresh.  The front trunk area is also very tidy with no signs of major issues.  Under a previous inspection, there was possibly some light superficial damage to the front end that was repaired decades ago.

The interior is equally nice with minimal signs of use.  It appears the interior was refurbished within the last decade or so along with the rest of the vehicle.  The front seats, rear seat bottoms, dash top, and door tops are covered in leather and look fresh.  The square-weave carpet is in excellent condition with no stains or significant wear.  The custom CocoMats® are in good condition as are the rubber factory-style floor mats.  The headliner is also new and has no fading or staining.  The interior lights work.  All the gauges work properly, including the clock.

This 356 drives amazingly.  As Scott Hendry of Scott’s Independent described, “It’s a lively and pleasant driver.  It’s a good example of a delightful 356C that does everything right and it puts a smile on your face.  It’s a nice car.”  I couldn’t agree more.  It starts easily on the first try with no fuss…even if it’s been sitting for a while.  Once warmed up, it holds an even idle and pulls nicely throughout the rev range without any hesitation or issues.  The brakes feel amazing and provide confidence when driving spiritedly.  There is no fading or pulling.  The transmission shifts easily between gears with no slop, grinding, or slipping.  The clutch engages perfectly.  The handling is superb.  It’s one of the better steering 356 examples I’ve experienced.  Even Steve Alarcon, owner of Johnson’s Alignment, agreed.  When performing the alignment, he called Scott’s Independent to ask him what he did with the steering box.  Steve went on to gush that it was the best steering he’d experienced in one of these cars and even called it “magnificent.”

Whether you are interested in participating in vintage touring events or just looking for a solid/reliable fun weekend cruiser, this 356 is well-suited for a variety of driving options.

This 356 C Coupe is currently California registered to September of 2025.

This 356 comes with several extra keys, owner’s manual, recent service records in a 3-ring binder, custom CocoMats, copy of Porsche Kardex, and full size spare tire/wheel.
