When the 997 Porsche (5th gen 911) was launched, it was lauded for being truer to the original 911 design. The wide fenders and separate headlight buckets made the car look like a natural continuation of the 993 Porsches. As many still crave that analog experience, 997s with manual transmissions have been more sought after than ever before. Furthermore, this example was custom ordered through the Porsche exclusive department with paint and interior to sample making it subtly more unique.
This Porsche was custom ordered and delivered new at Rusnak Porsche of Thousand Oaks on August 20th, 2004. It was built on February 8th, 2005 and delivered new on March 23rd, 2005. It was special ordered with the following factory options:
- 997 Paint to sample in Polar Silver Metallic
- 997 Interior to sample in Sea Blue Full Leather
- Navigation for PCM
- Remote 6-disc CD changer
- Sea blue floor mats
- Bose high end sound package
- Wheel caps with colored crests
- Heated front seats
The MSRP was $92,415, which is equivalent to $148,370 in today’s dollars.
The original owner was a mature enthusiast who rarely used the car. In 2009 with 8k-miles, the original owner noticed the check engine light on and the car began to run rough. He had it towed to Rusnak Porsche where they found the IMS bearing had failed and damaged the engine beyond repair. So, Porsche replaced the motor with a new updated factory crate motor under warranty. This motor has the upgraded larger bearing.
He sold the car to an Orange County enthusiast/PCA member on April 3rd, 2011 with only 11k miles. This next owner used the car primarily as his daily driver and it performed flawlessly. It only needed normal/routine services, which were performed by either the local Porsche dealer or Newport Motorsports Porsche Repair (a highly respected independent Porsche specialist in Orange County). We helped him sell it on August 16th, 2016 with just shy of 46k miles to a long-time vintage car enthusiast and friend of ours in the Monterey Bay area.
Since the new engine, the oil was serviced every year regardless of miles. For the next 3 years/3k miles, this Monterey Bay area owner performed the following services:
- Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires (2017 @46,500-miles)
- Alignment
- New battery
- Oil service
We helped this owner sell this C2S to the current Orange County owner on July 24th, 2019 with 49k miles. For the past 5 years, this owner has only added another 4k miles. He used it on the weekend for local cruising. The car looks just as nice as when we sold it the first time (approximately 8 years ago). Despite not driving it a lot, he still serviced it regularly with 3 oil services. Shortly after he purchased the car from us, he bought a new set of BBS CH-R wheels (8.5×19 / 11×19)*. The purchase price includes either the original wheels or the BBS wheels, buyer’s choice. If the buyer wants both sets of wheels, there’s an additional fee.
Other services performed by the current owner over the last 4k miles include:
- Water pump with gasket, drive belt, and transmission flush (9/19 @ 50,079 miles)
- Oil service, hood shocks, updated ignition coils (1/21 @ 52,376 miles)
This 997 C2S is ready for fresh oil service based on time (only 1,200 miles ago). The current owner will include a fresh oil service for the next owner.
This Carrera S is in excellent condition. The paint looks fantastic with minimal signs of use. The paint is all-original except for the hood with some blending on the left front fender. They were repainted/blended in 2007 when the original owner ran over a dip entering a parking lot that damaged the fender and wheel (which was replaced by Porsche). Without a paint meter, you cannot visually tell. Porsche did all the work. There are minor/expected chips from typical use, but they have been touched up and aren’t noticeable. The Michelin tires have more than half-life of tread. Despite having no cracking, they should be replaced soon due to age. The front and rear brakes have just under half-life remaining. The glass is all original including the windshield and wearing the proper factory stampings. All the glass, including the windshield, has been tinted to further help preserve the interior. If the next owner doesn’t want tint, we can coordinate having it professionally removed.
The interior is equally as nice. The special order full leather is a nice touch. It almost looks black unless you are in bright light. It has a very dark navy blue hue to it. The seats show almost no sign of wear. The headliner, carpet, door panels, and dash are nearly perfect. There is just a slight amount of wear on the driver threshold. The interior is very crisp and even still smells fresh. The air vents on the driver’s left and, in the middle, move up/down, but not left/right. All the gauges work and the A/C system blows cold. All the power functions including the mirrors, windows, and sunroof all work properly. The interior lights work as well. The PCM Navigation stereo unit works properly. The climate control knobs show some typical light wear. It is apparent from the overall condition that this 997 was never abused or driven hard and was well cared for.
We checked the DME (vehicle computer that logs events) and the results showed that this 911 had been lightly used. Range 1, which is at redline (7,200 rpm), was only 20 total seconds over the last 20 years. Level 2 (7,400 rpm) was only 0.46 seconds total. Finally, level 3 (7,600 rpm), was a mere 0.005 seconds, which is so low that it’s a common computer error. Zero on levels 4-6. This 911 has only averaged 27mph total over its entire life. The last time this 911 has been to redline or above was 1,027 miles ago.
This C2S drives great. Everything feels tight and responsive. It starts easily and has a nice throaty rasp to the exhaust (stock). The power feels strong throughout the rev range. The transmission shifts smoothly through the rev range with no grinding or slipping. The clutch engages properly, however, the clutch pedal is a bit on the stiff side. The brakes have an excellent bite with no fading or pulling and the handling is crisp and precise.
This Carrera will pass California emissions/smog testing with no issues.
This Carrera S comes with 2 main keys, owner’s manuals with vinyl case, many service records including engine replacement receipt from Porsche, original/laminated Certificate of Authenticity, factory tool kit, tire repair kit, wheel lock, and air compressor.
*Vehicle comes with 1 set of wheels, buyer’s choice. If the buyer wishes to keep both sets of wheels (stock and BBS), there will be an additional fee. If going back to stock wheels, new tires will need to be purchased, which we can help coordinate the service.
**Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud. All numbers including VIN, Engine, and color will be provided to serious buyers.
